???my first visit to Turkey and Alanya.
The one thing which sticks in my mind over and above everything else was the friendliness of the people.
Having taken the local Dolmus (bus) to the outskirts of a neighbouring town I decided to go back to my hotel by taxi. About ½ way back I realised I did not have enough money for the whole journey and as my limit approached I asked the driver to stop and let me out. When I explained why, he refused and insisted on taking me all the way. At the hotel I got out and rather embarrassed asked him to wait and I would go and get some money from my room. He would not hear of it and just said, ?Next time!? and drove off.
Unfortunately I never saw him again and I now owe him more than money, I also owe him a great debt of thanks and gratitude for what I never in my life believed possible, and certainly not in my home town of Glasgow??..
