The Turkish Riviera - The New Costa del Sol
16/05/2005

With the prices of property on the Costas continuing to rise many people who have always dreamed of their home in the sun are turning their attention to other areas. One country in particular is Turkey and especially along The Turkish Riviera. This area has lain mainly undiscovered to the overseas tourist and the early arrivals from Europe in the ?80?s and ?90?s were mainly the Germans and Scandinavians. More recently there has been an amazing upsurge of British and Dutch visitors all keen to enjoy year round good weather and explore this paradise alongside the Mediterranean. With the construction of good quality golf courses in Belek and Kadriye the Turkish Riviera is fast becoming a haven for golfers to enjoy themselves and escape the long winter months in their own country. Also in winter and with Taurus Mountains close by others look to take advantage of the ski-ing. In fact it is possible to ski in the morning and swim in the sea in the afternoon. While there are many good quality 4 and 5 star hotels in the region, many people still want their dream home in the sun and it is not unusual to spend at least one or two days looking at property along this coastline. And although prices have risen quite considerably over the last 2 or 3 years it is still possible to buy a high spec 2 bed apartment including a shared pool for as little as ?60,000 (£42,000). For those looking for a bit more privacy and space, villas with their own private pool can be found for upwards of ?90,000 (£62,000). With prices like these it is no surprise that this whole coastline stretching from Antalya to Alanya some 120kms is fast becoming a haven for 2nd and even 3rd homes for Northern Europeans. Each main town along the coast is sandwiched between the Taurus Mountains and the sea. In the cosmopolitan town of Alanya the mountains almost come right into the town, prompting one visitor to compare it to Monte Carlo. As the boom in property buying continues so the infrastructure and facilities improve. More golf courses are being built along the coastline. There is horse-riding and walks into the forests. Beaches are spotless with many being developed to cater for the holiday market, and the water is clean. The region also has its own historic outdoor amphitheatre where in the summer you can sit and enjoy both concerts and the opera. With a country rich in history very few who come are not captivated by the natural beauty or enchanted by the friendliness of the locals.
